Industrial Symphony: the name of Pedrali new showroom tells an industrial reality harmoniously moving through a symbiosis between tradition and innovation, engineering excellence and creative brilliance. Designed by Milan-based architecture studio Calvi Brambilla, the showroom has been set up in the headquarters of Mornico al Serio (Bergamo – Italy) where the company produces contemporary furniture for public spaces, offices and homes.

“A real industry, with very modern production plants, able to produce daily impressive quantities of pieces , with a constant quality control assurance: this was our impression on Pedrali since the very first day – architects Fabio Calvi and Paolo Brambilla said- We wanted the showroom, beyond enhancing the beauty of the products, to convey therefore the idea Pedrali is not just a brand, but a solid manufacturing company built on organisational efficiency”.

The project is inspired by the movements, rhythms and variations of a modern factory, an industrial symphony whose notes are the collections in plastic material, metal, wood as well as upholstered, exclusively Made in Italy.

The attention to details and distinctive features of each product are enhanced by large moving display elements of different kinds that recall the common industrial trolley, a silent and useful object of anonymous design. These modules, whose flame-red wheels and handles become unmistakable and characterising graphic signs, create a harmonious blend of beauty and practicality. Indeed, they can be easily moved to functionally and always originally shape the space of the showroom and they are alternated by single settings that recall the world of contract: from a contemporary bistrot to a hotel lounge, from a sophisticated pastry shop to a meeting room.

As a background of the new exhibiting areas, two walls each 18 meters long. One is completely covered with mirrors, which fast slide and fald away to enable a wider view of  Pedrali whole products range.

A new display has been also designed to host Compasso d’Oro, the prestigious award won by the company for Frida chair.

SNOOZE

Snooze is a sound absorbing panel for walls and ceilings, studied to increase the acoustic quality of every office space, making them cosier; at the same time, it decorates and makes rooms livelier thanks to the wide fabric range. Its shape reminds sound diffusers and it is composed by a core of hot-moulded polyester fibre in different densities and thicknesses; in the middle there is a metal element that, besides being a graphic sign, allows a quick assembly and an easy installation. The removable cover, with some zips on the back, guarantees simple maintenance, great flexibility and customisation in colours and fabrics choice, making it easily combined with other furniture components.

Multiple Snooze panels, placed side by side in different combinations, allow better sound absorbing performances.

Materials: hot-moulded polyester fibre. Support in plastic material.
Finishes: fabrics cover. Metal element in brushed nickel or black powder coated.

The project of the Milan-based architecture studio consists of two big side walls with a series of settings, spaces and situations strictly connected to the working environment: from the meeting room to the break-out area, from the conference room to the company restaurant without forgetting the waiting areas. Real scenes in movement that interpret in an ironic and surreal almost dreamlike viewpoint company’s furniture collection: from a shark which worryingly passes by behind a window of a waiting area to three little boats which sail over a snow-white top of a table in a meeting room. Like pictures of a movie, these tridimensional frames revolve round the central area where it's possible to touch the same furniture showcased in dark and unified shades.

“Fili d’erba”, Pedrali new automated warehouse, projected by CZA- Cino Zucchi Architetti, and located in the production site of the italian furniture company in Mornico al Serio, has been inaugurated. A cutting-edge building, fully automated and working 24/24, to store 16.880 pallets of finished and semi-finished products. The warehouse, 29 meters high with an overall area of 7 thousand sq. meters, is connected by a Skytrain and eight self-steering shuttles to the existing industrial spaces. The project aims to be a specific response that is strongly related to the surrounding agricultural context.

“With this important investment we have both more space for stock products and also achieve a higher efficiency in the manufacturing times of job orders- Giuseppe Pedrali, CEO of the company says-  we will be able to provide our Customers a better service and to respect the most pressing timing of contract projects”. The new warehouse will furthermore open up spaces within the production site where we are going to install new machines and consequently create new jobs”.

The volume of the automated warehouse is the result of a design study of current and future production capacity and manufacturing flows. Pallets arrived in the warehouse transported by a Skytrain and eight self-steering shuttles, and they are vertically and horizontally moved within the shelving thanks to five stacker cranes. The cladding of Pedrali new automated warehouse, designed by CZA – Cino Zucchi Architetti, aims to be a specific response strongly related to the environmental context, a visual pattern facing up the different conditions of the countryside landiscape. All four sides of the new warehouse are faced by panels in natural aluminum color. On these, a series of simple elements made with extruded aluminum profiles generates a visual pattern formed by a combination of vertical and oblique lines, like gigantic "blades of grass" that give rhythm, scale and measure to the blind and unarticulated surface of the facades.

“The dull and uniform volume of new warehouse is thus transformed into a visual phenomenon rich in variations, a kind of natural "amplifier" of the time of the day and the seasons. In certain moments it dissolves into the misty sky, reflecting its grey-blue tones, and in others it becomes imbued with the bright green of the agricultural fields in spring- Cino Zucchi tells- The architectural design of the warehouse and its related spaces goes beyond the concept of pure "environmental mitigation" applied to many industrial facilities. Instead, it becomes an important signal of the roots of Pedrali and the people who work there in their specific territory, as well as testifies their ability to dialogue with the increasingly globalized businesses and markets”.

The automated warehouse “Fili d’erba” - project by CZA- Cino Zucchi Architects, evidence of Pedrali’s commitment to landscape care, has received a special mention into the contest of the “Green Company Award”.

The prize, promoted by Arketipos, the Bergamo District Council and Confindustria Bergamo, with the support of ATS Bergamo, in collaboration with ABITARE magazine, aims to promote a landscape culture, influencing the way buildings are constructed, improving the quality of life.

The international board, headed by the landscape architect Stefan Tischer, explained the mention as follows: “Pedrali’s new automated warehouse is a real proof of integrated landscape architecture, a successful example that tells how a large building, located in an extra-urban context, can be integrated with the surrounding agricultural landscape. The project goes beyond the classic approach that tends to reduce the impact of an architectural object. It wants, instead, to establish a link with the landscape through a direct connection between architecture and environment. The board highly values the fact that the landscape and architectural cultures have met since the very beginning of the planning phase”.

“Fili d’erba” and all other projects are the protagonists of an exhibition staged in Sala delle Capriate in Piazza Vecchia - Bergamo - until 25th September 2016.
